No matter what pace you set, you must deliver three types of AI outcomes: business, technology, and behavioural. For business outcomes, switch focus from general to deep productivity, and manage your AI investments like a portfolio. For technology outcomes, manage demands for AI and data that are coming from everywhere (not just central IT) and build your own tech sandwich that’s right for your organization’s needs. For behavioural outcomes, co-create the AI employee experience with the people who are most impacted, being as intentional as you are with business and technology outcomes.

Advance IT by leveraging different aspects of operating model patterns, using value and outcomes as a connection point across those models. Build flexible people and work management practices, and facilitate building a matrix organization culture. Evolve to modern, outcome-oriented governance practices that harvest the most value, then adopt strategic portfolio management practices to leverage the strengths of diverse stakeholders, balancing that governance with delivery team autonomy.

Think of AI not only as a target for innovation, but as a means. Redefine the CISO role by clarifying responsibilities and consistently raising awareness while battling malinformation, digital interference, manipulation, and access control. Develop communities of practice for application security and apply the basics of a zero-trust philosophy tailored to non-IT environments.
